There are 37,000 non-profits registered in the state of New Jersey. Most non-profits fail in the first five years.

On May 24, Emerging Leaders welcomed K. David Holmes President/CEO of KDH Enterprises for a presentation on Organizational Success with Strategic Management.

David describes strategic management as the “steering of the ship;” developing synergy so that the whole organization moves collectively in the same direction.  In addition to reviewing the ten-step strategic planning process, David was sure to discuss not only the benefits but what it isn’t and in what instances an organization should steer clear of strategic planning.  The agency is an organism, “it’s not what’s in your head, it’s what’s in their heads.”

“Ultimately it is the executive’s function to bring the organization up to a higher level.  As quickly as things are happening today, you still must take risks.”

As an accomplished strategist, David has spent most of the past sixteen years working with CEO’s and senior administrators in developing aerial perspectives of their organizations within their industry’s environment, while mapping succinct plans for program/business expansion, reconfiguring systems to improve efficiency, or developing retrenchment plans and managing risk to avoid exposure.

Prior to 2004, David led and administered programs in both the non-profit industry and the Public Sector, including NJ DHS, LADACIN Network and ABCD’s Early Intervention Provider Association.
