ABCs at ABCD Presentation: Crucial Conversations
On July 12 Jeanne Ashmore welcomed ABCD members attending Jonathan Meagher-Zayas and Nicole Dama of Equity Warrior Strategies, LLC zoom presentation, Strengthening Your Crucial Conversation Skills. Jonathan and Nicole began as they always do to ensure that “what is learned here, leaves here; what is shared here, stays here.” Crucial conversation is a discussion characterized as high stakes, differing opinions, and strong emotions; they often occur in regular interactions and have a huge impact on work life; and they are ones we tend to avoid because we’re afraid of saying something wrong and making things worse. How do we talk to each other in these circumstances? By building trust–the currency of change. Nicole and Jonathan detailed the 7 principles of crucial conversations before the breakout sessions. Nicole Dama has been a trainer and facilitator for over 14 years with the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI). She is a graduate of the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities and most recently worked with the Leadership Consortium on developing the training, “Leading Great Teams.” Currently, Nicole works for the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals as an Office and Communications Manager working on events and programming to elevate the status of direct support professionals.
